TATA Motors Mini CAT Air Car scheduled for 2012.

There are no keys – just an access card which can be read by the car from your pocket. According to the designers, it costs less than 50 rupees per 100 km (about a tenth that of a petrol car). Its mileage is about double that of the most advanced electric car (200 to 300 km or 10 hours of driving), a factor which makes a perfect choice in cities where 80% of motorists drive at less than 60 km. The Tata Motors Mini CAT Air Car has a top speed of 105 km/h.Source::www.indiaoncars.com

Bajaj RE60 - Is It A car?

A last mile transportation solution for people.

Dealership network – This will go through RE dealerships (commercial vehicle network). I hope this will motivate dealers to spruce up dealership.

Despite the success with the motorcycles, Bajaj has taken its eyes of the 3-wheeler business of which it is the largest auto market – half a million 3-wheeler sales this year.

Four year journey ends today with the launch of this four-wheeler.This is a 4-wheeled vehicle – Pride and aspiration associated with a 4-wheeler present on this product.

100% new petrol engine – fuel injected, water cooled, 4 valves, twin spark technology – 60g/km of CO2 emissions – typically half what current small car emits. The engine is mounted at the rear.

New honda lnsight 2012 Launched in Srilanka.

Stafford Motor Co (Pvt) Ltd., the sole distributor for Honda products in Sri Lanka for well over 35 years, celebrated a yet another milestone by introducing the first-ever eco-friendly Honda Hybrid to the Sri Lankan motorist last week.
Keeping in line with the Honda standards and their expectations in terms of the required infrastructure, training needs and skills to service Hybrid vehicles in the country, it is geared not only to service them but also to offer valuable advice to maximise driving pleasure, fuel economy and durability of the battery and the IMA system.
Honda Insight 20l2hx been improved in terms of styling and performance compared to its predecessor. Hybrid cars have been gaining popularity over the years primarily due to their fuel efficiency and low carbon emissions to the environment.
The Insight features a 1.3 line, 4 cylinder gas engine, hamessed with an electric motor which produces 98 BHP, and 123 pound-feet of torque. The Honda Insight 2012 operates on the Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) system – a system which operates primarily on petrol, while still utilising the electric motor to aid in producing more power than the petrol engine is able to do on its own.
Honda Insight’s Hybrid system is a parallel hybrid where an electric motor is mounted between the l.3liile V-TEC internal combustion engines and the continuously variable transmission. The electric motor also can act as an electric generator.
In braking situations, the hybrid system on the car puts a load in the generator which helps the car to slow down without putting much pressure in the brake system and at the same time, it generates electricity to charge the battery which is on the back of the car.
When the driver wants to accelerate the car, the same generator turns into an electric motor and assists the engine under acceleration process. Also, while driving in steady, low speed conditions, the electric motor can drive the car on its own. This process helps the car consume less fuel and saves wear and tear of the engine and is also more eco-friendly than non hybrid vehicles due to the low carbon emissions.Source:www.ft.lk

Speed Queen Lakshika.

Photogrphy by  lalinda ranaweera.Motor Sports is an industry that has been largely dominated by males. If you think twice, you’ll notice it’s the same thing both locally and at international levels. Wherever you go, it’s always the males who are hogging the spotlight.

S.A. Lakshika Wijerathna, a local motor racer, is here to prove us all wrong. Coming from a family of Motor Sport enthusiasts, she also happens to be one of the very few female Motor Racers and no mug at that.

SOUL met up with this young personality for a glimpse into her life.
